Decatur, Illinois Man Coryell Henz Sentenced to 120 Months for Cocaine Trafficking: 2 Kilograms Found in Car, Trips to Texas to Buy Drugs
A federal court in the Central District of Illinois has sentenced Decatur man Coryell Henz, 45, to 120 months in prison for possessing more than 500 grams of cocaine with intent to distribute. U.S. District Judge Sue E. Myerscough imposed the 10-year term on October 20, 2026, to be followed by an eight-year term of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of Illinois announced.
The case began with a traffic stop in July 2023, when Illinois State Police stopped Henz in Sangamon County and, after an initial search of his vehicle, arrested him for possessing two kilograms of cocaine. At the sentencing hearing, the government also established that Henz had traveled to Texas to purchase the cocaine and planned to distribute it in the Central District of Illinois.
Henz was indicted in August 2024 and pleaded guilty in June 2026. Federal law sets the penalty for possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine at 10 years to life in prison, a fine of up to $20 million, up to a life term of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment; the 120-month sentence sits at the statutory minimum for the offense.
The Illinois State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration's Springfield Resident Office investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Z. Weir prosecuted it. The Justice Department said the case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
