Florida Inmate Alvin Martin Few Gets 5 Years 11 Months for Mailing Threats and White Powder to Miami Federal Courthouse, on Top of Life Sentence
A federal court in the Middle District of Florida has sentenced inmate Alvin Martin Few, 62, to five years and eleven months in federal prison for mailing threatening communications to the federal courthouse in Miami, in Miami-Dade County, Florida. U.S. District Judge Wendy W. Berger imposed the sentence, which will run consecutively to the state sentence Few is already serving, U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced.
According to court documents, Few was serving a life sentence plus 15 years for Florida state convictions when he mailed a letter to the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. U.S. Courthouse in Miami containing threatening statements including "all judges die." He put a white powder inside the envelope and wrote that the powder was "very fatal." A clerk was exposed to the powder when he opened the letter; lab testing later confirmed the powder was benign and not a chemical or biological agent.
Few pleaded guilty on July 14, 2026, to mailing threatening communications. Because the new federal sentence runs consecutively to — rather than concurrently with — his prior life-plus-15-years term, it adds almost six years on top of the sentence he is already serving.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Marshals Service investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard L. Lasseter prosecuted it.
