DHS Releases List of 20 Criminal Illegal Aliens in ICE Custody, Most Convicted in California, Including Gang Members
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security released a statement on Oct. 27 listing 20 illegal aliens currently in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), convicted of serious crimes including murder, robbery and child abuse. DHS described them as some of the worst illegal aliens arrested by ICE who remain in custody. Most of those named were convicted in California, and many have gang ties.
According to the DHS statement, gang affiliations on the list include the Vietnamese Boys, the Surenos, MS-13 and the 18th Street gang. The list includes several Vietnamese nationals — among them Thanh Van Nguyen, Quang Minh Tran, Binh Huynh and Vu Trong Nguyen — as well as Melvin Edenilson Melendez Ramos and others. DHS has been publishing such "worst of the worst" arrest and custody lists in recent months, saying its enforcement priority is convicted criminal illegal aliens.
In a separate statement the same day, DHS highlighted criminal illegal aliens already removed to third countries under agreements with those nations (see related story). The two lists differ: the 20 people on the custody list remain detained by ICE, while those on the removal list have already left the United States.
