Coastal Flood Advisory for San Diego County Runs Through Oct. 29; Morning Tides May Run 1 to 1.7 Feet Above Forecast
San Diego County, California — Coastal areas of San Diego County remained under a coastal flood advisory on Oct. 27. The advisory, issued by the National Weather Service on Oct. 25, runs through Thursday, Oct. 29, and the county warned residents that morning high tides this week could run 1 to 1.7 feet above forecast levels. Some communities have already seen ponding water, and more coastal flooding is possible in the coming days.
County officials said waves during high tides could push farther up beaches and erode shorelines, and that low-lying roads, homes, businesses and critical infrastructure could be affected. Residents were urged to stay off beaches during high tides and to keep away from the water, rocks, jetties and cliff edges. People living or working in low-lying coastal areas can use sandbags or other barriers to protect buildings; the county lists sandbag pickup locations by city in the El Niño 2026 resources section of Alert San Diego.
Drivers who encounter flooded roads should turn around rather than attempt to cross seemingly shallow water, the county said, because deep holes and debris may be hidden below the surface and a stalled vehicle can easily become trapped.
