Former Northview Church Senior Pastor Launches New Church: Patmos Church Holds First Services in Noblesville on October 25
The former senior pastor of Northview Church in Carmel, Indiana, who was removed from his position in June, is launching a new church in Hamilton County, according to an October 23 report by The Indianapolis Star.
Pastor C.J. Johnson was fired by Northview Church's board of elders. He is now launching his own congregation, called Patmos Church, at 802 Mulberry St. in Noblesville. Services are set for 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on October 25, according to the church's Instagram posts, and the account already had more than 600 followers as of the morning of October 23. "A broken world needs a brave church," one of the posts reads.
Patmos is a small, rocky island in the Aegean Sea. It holds a significant place in Christianity as the island where the apostle John was exiled and received the visions recorded in the Book of Revelation, according to Britannica.
An update from Northview Church in June that announced the termination of Johnson's employment stated that various concerns were brought to church leadership regarding aspects of his leadership style and interpersonal conduct. A significant allegation was brought to the church's elder team, which brought in a law firm to investigate; the church did not provide details on the nature of the allegation. "Although the findings in the investigation were inconclusive, we continued to review and evaluate patterns," the Northview Church update read, adding that on May 19 all three of its executive pastors unanimously brought their own concerns to the elder board about the future of the church under his current leadership.
Johnson did not immediately respond to The Indianapolis Star's efforts to reach him for comment, the newspaper reported.
