Iowa Ranks Ninth in Cato Freedom Index: Governor Kim Reynolds Ranks Fifth Among Governors
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds issued a statement on October 22 in Des Moines, the state capital in Polk County, after the Cato Institute released its new Freedom in the 50 States index. The study ranks U.S. states according to how their public policies affect individual economic, social and personal freedom. In the new index, Iowa ranks 9th among all states, and Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds ranks 5th nationally among U.S. governors.
Governor Kim Reynolds said in the statement that Iowa is proud to be a state where everyone has the freedom to flourish, and cited her administration's and the legislature's work in recent years, including across-the-board tax cuts, improved government efficiency and expanded educational freedom. In its summary for the fifth-place governor, the Cato Institute cited Reynolds's record as a champion of school choice, noting Iowa's education savings account program, broader charter school options, between-district open enrollment and expanded tuition tax credits.
