Huntington Park

Huntington Park's Measure HP Heads to the Nov. 3 Ballot: Two-Term Lifetime Limit Proposed for City Council
The City of Huntington Park, in Los Angeles County, California, holds its election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, when voters will decide Measure HP: whether to cap City Council service at a lifetime maximum of two terms. The measure appears on the statewide general election ballot and passes with a simple majority (50%+1).
According to the city's election information, the current limit is three lifetime terms. If Measure HP passes, the cap drops to two lifetime terms, and the current 'reset' provision, under which a member's term count restarts after time out of office, would be eliminated. A 'yes' vote establishes the two-term lifetime limit and removes the reset; a 'no' vote keeps the current three-term limit and the reset provision.
The ballot question published by Los Angeles County asks whether an ordinance should be adopted to establish a lifetime limit of two terms for members of the City Council, where a partial term of more than two years counts as a full term, and a partial term of two years or less does not count against the limit. County records show the argument in favor was signed by Mayor Eduardo Martinez and Council Member Nancy Martiz, among others, and no argument against was submitted. The City Council placed the measure before voters by Resolution No. 2026-25.
In a notice posted Oct. 14, the city encouraged residents to review the official ballot materials to understand the proposed changes before voting.
