Shooter in St. Louis Murder-for-Hire Sentenced to 30 Years: Son Hired Him to Kill His Mother for a $150,000 Insurance Policy
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Missouri announced on October 21 that Eric Washington, 47, of Jennings, the shooter in a murder-for-hire plot, was sentenced that day to 30 years in federal prison. On July 6, 2023, Washington shot Andreaia Worthem multiple times in St. Louis, killing her. The man who hired him was the victim's son, Andrew C. Hubbard, who sought the proceeds of a $150,000 life insurance policy.
According to the plea agreements previously released by prosecutors, Hubbard applied for a $150,000 insurance policy for his mother, Andreaia Worthem, in April 2019. Around June 2023, he hatched a plan to kill her for the insurance proceeds, initially intending to use cocaine spiked with a lethal dose of fentanyl or heroin, and promised co-conspirator Kim Alexis Mosley $50,000 if the plan succeeded. He then asked his cousin Washington to deliver the drugs, offering $10,000.
Around 10 p.m. on July 6, 2023, Washington picked up Worthem from her home in St. Louis County and drove her to St. Louis, where he shot her multiple times and left her body in an alley in the 4400 block of Kennerly Avenue. Just after 11 p.m., he called Hubbard and said, “It's done.” Hubbard ultimately paid Washington only $450 in cash plus cocaine and marijuana. Impatient over the promised $10,000, Washington later called the insurance company to ask about the proceeds, saying he had “done some work” for Hubbard, who owed him money.
All three defendants previously pleaded guilty: Washington pleaded guilty in July to conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire resulting in personal injury; Hubbard pleaded guilty in June to conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire and murder-for-hire and is scheduled to be sentenced on December 1; Mosley pleaded guilty in September and is scheduled to be sentenced on January 20. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Martin is prosecuting it.
