Phoenix Man Sentenced, Company Shut Down in SARMs Smuggling Scheme That Imported Unapproved Drugs From China
The U.S. Department of Justice announced that Jeffrey McIndoo of Phoenix, Arizona, was sentenced to four months in prison and fined $1,000, and that his company, SARMS Pharm, was ordered to cease operations and forfeit $1.8 million.
According to the department, from 2017 to 2022 McIndoo and his company smuggled selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs) — substances not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration — from China and sold them in the United States, grossing at least $3.5 million. The case was investigated by the FDA's Office of Criminal Investigations, and U.S. District Judge Sharad H. Desai imposed the sentence in the District of Arizona.
The FDA has repeatedly warned that SARMs are not approved for any medical use and may pose serious health risks; such products are often marketed online as dietary supplements or bodybuilding aids.
