USDA Awards About $360,000 to Eight Rural Montana Small Business Projects
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced about $360,000 in rural development awards for eight Montana projects, which State Director Bill Warden presented in Bozeman.
The awards include $97,487 for the Plenty Doors project; $82,500 to Jefferson County for a Sunlight biodiesel report; $50,000 to Headwaters for planning the Blacktail Health facility — a project expected to support 50 to 75 jobs in a later phase — plus $26,000 for Bausch Potato and $12,767 for Bears Den; $33,300 for Columbus; $34,568 to the Montana Community Forestry Association (MUCFA) for a Kalispell forestry apprenticeship program; and $26,000 to a Missoula partnership for a Holzbau feasibility study. The grants use USDA rural business and energy programs that fund feasibility studies, planning and apprenticeships in communities outside Montana's metropolitan areas.
Local sponsors say the planning money positions the projects to compete for larger construction and operating funds.
