Nevada's Veterans Services Commission Meets October 21 to Take Up State Veterans Cemetery Interment Rates
Nevada — The Nevada Veterans Services Commission meets on Wednesday, October 21, at 9 a.m. Pacific, with state veterans cemetery interment rates on the agenda under new business for possible action. Nevada's two state veterans cemeteries are in Fernley and Boulder City.
Members of the public can attend at public-access offices in Reno (9400 Gateway Drive) and Las Vegas (7220 Bermuda Road), or join by the videoconference and telephone comment lines published in the meeting notice; public comment is normally limited to five minutes per person at the chair's discretion. A commission discussion or recommendation is distinct from the Nevada Department of Veterans Services director's statutory responsibility for cemetery fees and operations, and the agenda does not publish a new rate schedule.
The commission is a gubernatorial advisory body on veterans' affairs that meets under the state's open meeting law. Interment rates affect what families pay when arranging burials for veterans, and any recommendation from the commission would go to the responsible officials for a decision on implementation.
