Kings Rally Past Capitals 5-2 for First Win of the Season
In Los Angeles, a city in Los Angeles County, California, the Los Angeles Kings scored twice in the final 31 seconds of the first period to erase a two-goal deficit and beat the Washington Capitals 5-2 for their first win of the season. Adrian Kempe scored twice, Artemi Panarin had a goal and two assists, Erik Gustafsson put Los Angeles ahead with a power-play goal at 7:28 of the third period, and Scott Laughton added an empty-netter.
Darcy Kuemper made 30 saves against his former team. Washington's Leonard and Hutson had staked the Capitals to a 2-0 lead before the Kings' late first-period flurry tied it.
Second-line center Quinton Byfield left in the first period with an upper-body injury after playing just 2:44 and did not return. The Kings improved to 1-4-2 with the win.
