ICE Arrests Mississippi Woman Accused of Threatening to Kill Federal Agents While Trying to Buy a Gun
GULFPORT, Miss. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced on October 21 that agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrested Lisa White, of Mississippi, following an investigation into threats made against ICE agents.
ICE said HSI Gulfport special agents took White into custody in Long Beach, Mississippi, after reports that she made explicit threats to "kill federal agents" while attempting to purchase a firearm and pepper spray. According to the reports, White inquired about the capability of specific firearms to penetrate ballistic vests, saying she would target agents' heads if she could not breach their armor. HSI special agents responded to the scene, conducted interviews, and located and arrested White.
ICE said violence and threats against federal law enforcement have increased sharply, with assaults against ICE officers up more than 1,600 percent, vehicle attacks up 3,300 percent and death threats up 8,000 percent. The agency said President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin have made clear that violence against ICE officers, or any law enforcement personnel, will not be tolerated, and that anyone who threatens, assaults, obstructs or violently attacks officers will be subject to arrest and prosecution.
"The safety of our personnel is paramount, and HSI takes any threat against federal law enforcement officers with the utmost seriousness," said Matthew Reidell, Assistant Special Agent in Charge at HSI Gulfport. He commended citizens for recognizing the threats and notifying law enforcement immediately, which allowed agents to intervene swiftly.
ICE said White is currently being held as agents prepare federal criminal charges for influencing, impeding or retaliating against a federal official by threat. The investigation is ongoing.
