Former President Obama Endorses Helena Foulkes for Rhode Island Governor
Former President Obama announced on Oct. 21 that he is endorsing Helena Foulkes for governor of Rhode Island. Foulkes is the Democratic nominee, and Obama's statement praised her campaign platform and leadership, matching the endorsement statement released by her campaign.
The endorsement comes as the Rhode Island governor's race enters its final stretch, after Foulkes's campaign was targeted by attack mailers. Obama remains one of the Democratic Party's most sought-after surrogates, and his backing adds national attention to Foulkes's bid.
Rhode Island's gubernatorial election will be held Nov. 3 alongside the midterms. (GSM, based on reporting by the Providence Journal)
