Federal Sentencing: Whitehall Man Gets 46 Months for Stalking Women Across Several States
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania, part of the Department of Justice (DOJ), announced that Brett Michael Dadig, 31, of Whitehall, was sentenced in federal court in Pittsburgh on October 20 to 46 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Marilyn J. Horan imposed the sentence on Dadig's convictions for cyberstalking, interstate stalking and interstate threats.
U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti said Dadig used the Pittsburgh area as a home base and moved from city to city, brazenly stalking, harassing and intimidating different women in each location. He sought to terrorize the women in person and through hate-filled social media posts, text messages, phone calls and podcasts, at times in violation of Protection from Abuse orders, Rivetti said. Many of the posts and podcasts included the victims' full names, photos and personal information such as their locations, places of work and finances, and Rivetti commended the women who came forward to help bring Dadig to justice and prevent him from harming others.
According to the indictment previously announced by prosecutors, the case involved 11 victims in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Iowa and New York. Dadig met many of the women at fitness establishments, then showed up uninvited at their homes and workplaces, followed them from work, tried to get them fired, and posted photographs and private details online without consent. The indictment cited threats referring to breaking jaws and fingers, strangling people and burning down gyms, and said two Pittsburgh victims had obtained Protection from Abuse orders that Dadig violated online and in person. When he was banned from gyms and businesses or reported to police in one city, he moved on to another city to continue the conduct.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigated the case with assistance from police departments in Pittsburgh and across the country, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicole Vasquez Schmitt prosecuted it. Rivetti said the sentence sends a clear message to cyber and in-person stalkers and harassers that such conduct will not be tolerated by his office and its law enforcement partners. The charges were filed in the Western District of Pennsylvania, and the sentence was announced by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Pittsburgh on the day Judge Horan imposed it.
