VA Maryland Health Care System Receives Funding for Facility Improvements at Baltimore, Loch Raven and Perry Point Centers
The VA Maryland Health Care System announced in Baltimore on October 20, 2026, that it received funding for non-recurring maintenance projects in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026, after receiving funds earlier in the year, for continued infrastructure improvements at its facilities.
The funding is the culmination of a record $4.8 billion in nationwide VA spending to modernize, repair, and improve health care facilities in fiscal year 2026 through the Veterans Health Administration's Non-recurring Maintenance program, and VA obligated all of the $4.8 billion that was available in fiscal year 2026. The fourth-quarter projects in Maryland cover the Baltimore, Loch Raven, and Perry Point VA Medical Centers, and include electronic health record infrastructure upgrades in Baltimore and Perry Point, construction of consolidated boiler spaces at Loch Raven, replacement of switchgear and automatic transfer switches in Baltimore, elevator modernization at Perry Point, and replacement of transformers at Perry Point.
Nationwide, maintenance projects approved in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026 include $1.183 billion to repair and upgrade outdated infrastructure systems in medical facilities, $938 million for major building upgrades such as elevators, electrical systems, and boiler plants, and $560 million for maintenance and modernization of facility infrastructure to support future electronic health record system updates.
Jonathan R. Eckman, director of the VA Maryland Health Care System, said the funding allows the system to continue modernizing and improving, so that its facilities remain safe, efficient, and equipped to provide high-quality care for veterans in Maryland.
