Wisconsin Signs Sister-State Agreement With France's Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region, Its First New Sister-State Relationship Since 1990
MADISON — Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced on October 19 that Wisconsin has established a new sister-state relationship with the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France — the state's first new sister-state relationship in 36 years, since 1990.
Evers, together with Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Secretary and CEO John W. Miller, joined Jérôme Durain, President of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Regional Council, in signing a memorandum of understanding at a ceremony at the Wisconsin State Capitol. The agreement aims to bolster the economic and educational partnership between the two regions in shared sectors including agriculture, energy, advanced manufacturing, biotherapies and health sciences.
The governor's office said the relationship grew out of a 2025 visit by Evers and WEDC leaders to the region and a September memorandum of understanding between WEDC and the region's economic development agency, AER.
