45th Annual Nashville Pow Wow Draws About 10,000 for a Weekend of Native Culture
The 45th annual Nashville Indian Education Pow Wow took place this weekend at Long Hunter State Park, drawing about 10,000 attendees.
The event, organized by the Native American Indian Association of Tennessee and dating to 1981, features traditional dance competitions, drum performances, a Native crafts market and traditional food stalls. 'A lot of young people are participating too — seeing this spirit passed down through generations is truly inspiring,' said longtime participant Ray Emanuel. Organizers say they have purchased land along Bell Road in hopes of accommodating a larger venue within a few years as the gathering keeps growing. (GSM, via The Tennessean)
