Vermont Green Head Coach Chris Taylor Steps Down After Back-to-Back Titles and 42 Unbeaten Matches
In Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont, Vermont Green FC announced on October 19 that men's head coach Chris Taylor will step down ahead of the 2027 season to focus on his family. In a letter to the community, Taylor said family circumstances and the need to spend more time with his family must take priority in the coming year.
Taylor joined the club's coaching staff ahead of its inaugural season, serving as assistant coach from 2022 to 2024 before taking over in 2025. In his two seasons in charge, the Green won back-to-back USL League Two national championships, going unbeaten in league play in 2025 (15 wins, 4 draws) and again in 2026 (18 wins, 1 draw). He finishes with an all-time record of 35 wins and 7 draws in 42 competitive matches, winning seven trophies, including two Northeast Division titles, two Eastern Conference titles, two national titles and the 2026 Hank Steinbrecher Cup.
Club co-founder Matthew Wolff said Taylor's impact on the club is immeasurable and wished him well as he prioritizes his family in 2027. The club has not announced a successor.
