Final Defendant in Kentucky Fentanyl and Carfentanil Trafficking Conspiracy Sentenced to 26 Months
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Adrian Kmari Lattimore, 31, of Paris, Kentucky, was sentenced on October 16 to 26 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Robert Wier for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a mixture containing fentanyl and carfentanil, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky announced. Judge Wier had previously imposed sentences of 99 months and 180 months on Lattimore's two co-defendants, Craig Williams and Jerome Newton, completing sentencing for all three defendants in the case.
From March 29 through April 2, 2025, a coordinated law enforcement operation seized a significant amount of suspected carfentanil and arrested Lattimore, Williams and Newton, who were involved in a multi-state narcotics trafficking conspiracy, according to court records. Under Lattimore's plea agreement, on March 29, 2025, Williams contacted a confidential informant offering to sell carfentanil, displayed the drugs on a FaceTime call, and later met in person in Cincinnati, where he and Newton provided a sample.
The following day, Williams and Newton traveled to Lexington to complete the sale. The narcotics were stored in a vehicle at a local establishment and held by Lattimore. Surveillance footage captured Lattimore transferring the suspected drugs, after which law enforcement seized the narcotics and arrested all three. Laboratory testing confirmed the presence of fentanyl, carfentanil and morphine. Lattimore qualified for sentencing reductions based on his minimal participation and lack of criminal history, according to the plea agreement.
Carfentanil is a synthetic opioid used as a tranquilizing agent for elephants and other large mammals, approximately 10,000 times more potent than morphine and 100 times more potent than fentanyl, which can be lethal at the 2-milligram range, the Justice Department said. The case was investigated by the FBI, the Kentucky State Police and the Lexington Police Department, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mary Melton. U.S. Attorney Jason Parman and Olivia Olson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Louisville Field Office, were among the officials who jointly announced the sentence.
