LONDON — Four Premier League matches closed out Sunday in Matchweek 7. Defending champions Arsenal won 1-0 at Nottingham Forest: their first shot on target did not arrive until the 80th minute, when substitute Noni Madueke's deflected strike settled the game. Manager Mikel Arteta said the longer the match went on, the more risks his side had to take; Madueke said this season's Arsenal has an extra belief that might have seen such a game slip away last year.
Elsewhere, Brighton thrashed Crystal Palace 5-0 at home for the day's biggest margin, Bournemouth beat Sunderland 2-0, and Leeds United held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road.
Arsenal remain in touch with leaders Manchester City, who beat Ipswich Town 3-2 on Saturday, when Liverpool won 2-1 at Brentford and Chelsea beat Everton 2-0. The matchweek concludes Monday with Tottenham Hotspur against Coventry City. (GSM, from Reuters and other reports)
