DeSantis Unveils New Christopher Columbus Statue in Naples Donated by the State
Governor Ron DeSantis visited Naples to unveil a new statue of Christopher Columbus, The Floridian Press reported on October 16. The statue was donated by the State of Florida to the Knights of Columbus Council #4357 in commemoration of significant Florida-related events that were instrumental to America's founding, in continuation of the America 250 celebrations.
Reflecting on the New World voyages of Columbus and Ponce de Leon, DeSantis said: 'The state of Florida, even though we weren't one of the original 13 colonies, we are the oldest European settlement in the United States of America.'
