Walz Touts Record as He Prepares to Leave Minnesota Governor's Office
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will leave the governor's office on January 4 after eight years in office. On October 15, with 81 days left in his term, the governor's office published a website highlighting his administration's 'signature accomplishments,' The Center Square reported. Those include what his office described as 'historic' investments in education, expanded access to abortion and gender-transition procedures, a law committing Minnesota to 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2040, tax cuts, expanded voting rights, and investments in housing and infrastructure.
'Gov. Walz and Lt. Gov. Flanagan took office in January 2019 on the promise of One Minnesota: the vision that, while we are not all the same, we are at our best when we work across lines of difference to improve the lives of all Minnesotans,' the governor's office said.
Critics have questioned Walz's record, pointing to allegations of widespread fraud in taxpayer-funded programs, disputes over state spending and concerns about public safety, the report noted. Speaking at the Star Tribune's North Star Summit this week about the fraud issue, Walz said: 'Yep, I should have done more. Fraud — should have stopped it sooner. We didn't stop them. I accept that.'
