NJEDA Invests $16.5 Million in Eight Innovative New Jersey Startups

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) announced on October 16 that it has approved a total of $16.5 million since February to support eight early-stage innovative companies through the New Jersey Innovation Evergreen Fund (NJIEF), spanning health care, biotechnology, life sciences, SI security and advanced materials.

Among the recipients, Short Hills-based SI security company Cranium AI received $5 million matched by SYN Ventures, and Princeton Critical Minerals, a Princeton University spinout based in Newark, received $4 million. The others are Jersey City medical device company Urologic Health ($1.25 million), Edison health care management platform Elligint Health ($1.5 million), New Brunswick biotech TangGene (up to $1.5 million), Murray Hill eye-imaging company AstraNu (up to $1.5 million), Mount Laurel-based ChorusRx (nearly $1 million) and Mickleton-based Sena Health ($750,000).

Governor Mikie Sherrill said her administration is committed to making New Jersey the best place to do business, and that the investments will seed new technologies, attract incremental capital and build a dynamic startup ecosystem. NJEDA CEO Evan Weiss said the fund's success is measured not just in dollars invested but in its transformative impact on New Jersey businesses. Under the NJIEF, the state acts as an equity investor in early-stage companies, deploying up to $600 million alongside venture capital firms; the platform now has 37 approved venture firms, has directly invested in 20 innovative businesses to date, and has about $46 million in unallocated capital.
