Seattle Opens Applications for 2027 Technology Matching Fund: Up to $45,000 Per Project, $410,000 in Total
Seattle is a city in King County, Washington. The City of Seattle announced on October 15 that applications are now open for the 2027 Technology Matching Fund (TMF). Nonprofit organizations and community groups with projects or programs focused on closing the digital divide and promoting digital literacy may apply for matching grants of up to $45,000. A total of $410,000 is available this year, subject to City Council approval.
The city's information technology department said projects should increase internet access and adoption in Seattle communities. Eligible directions include one-on-one or small-group digital navigator assistance, classes or workshops teaching essential digital skills, providing devices together with the support needed to use them, and expanding Wi-Fi or other internet access for low-income residents.
To receive funding, applicants must meet a community match requirement, contributing the equivalent of 25 percent of the requested amount through volunteer time, staff hours, donated materials or cash. Acting Chief Technology Officer Shannon Smith said many residents still ask for help accessing key services, whether support with devices, digital training or other needs, and that partnering with community leaders is critical to the work.
Applications are submitted online through the city's Fluxx platform and are due by 5 p.m. on January 15, 2027; grant winners will be notified by the end of March 2027. The city will hold two information sessions: a virtual session on October 21 from 3 to 4 p.m., and an in-person session on October 27 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Douglass-Truth Library, 2300 E Yesler Way. Attendance is optional. Project managers are available for guidance; questions can be sent to [email protected] or (206) 684-8498. The fund is overseen by Seattle IT's Digital Equity Program.
