Kitsap County: More Than 35% of Voters Had Cast Ballots by October 29
BREMERTON, Wash. — More than 35 percent of Kitsap County voters had already cast ballots for the November 3 general election as of October 29, the Kitsap Sun reported October 31, in a season spanning county offices, legislative seats, statewide measures and a public utility district proposition that could decide the future of Kitsap's electric service.
County Auditor's Office spokesman Steve Gardner said the share of ballots returned by the final Friday before the election typically doubles by the final count, projecting total turnout for the 2026 midterms between 2022's 66 percent and 2018's 72 percent. Registered voters in the county have grown from about 166,000 a decade ago to 203,000 this fall.
On the money side, opponents of Kitsap PUD Proposition 1 — who want Puget Sound Energy to keep control of electric distribution — have raised more than $2.4 million, against about $9,000 for supporters. The two state House races in the 26th District have each raised more than $600,000, the most of any legislative seats; in the 35th District Senate race, Republican incumbent Drew MacEwen has raised about $310,000 to challenger Caroline Mejia's $429,000, including $290,000 from the Washington State Democratic Party.
Washington votes essentially by mail, and Kitsap voters can also vote in person at centers in Bremerton, Port Orchard and Poulsbo on October 31, November 2 and November 3. Ballots must be in a drop box or postmarked by 8 p.m. on November 3.
