Wizards Beat Hornets 95-79 in NBA Cup Opener; Top Pick Dybantsa Scores 17 in Home Debut
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Wizards beat the Charlotte Hornets 95-79 at Capital One Arena on October 30 to open their NBA Cup campaign, avenging an earlier road loss to Charlotte, Sports Illustrated reported.
Top draft pick AJ Dybantsa made his Washington home debut and scored 17 points, keying the Wizards' transition attack. Dybantsa had been hurt in the preseason finale and missed a week before rejoining the team; this was his second regular-season game, and he is averaging 18 points through two.
After splitting their first two home games last week and heading out on the road, the Wizards returned home to win by 16 for their first NBA Cup victory of the season, as the franchise still awaits its first trip to the NBA Cup knockout stage. Charlotte's offense was held in check throughout.
Washington's November 24 home game against the Boston Celtics looms as another key test, and the Wizards hope to carry the momentum of the payback win forward.
