NFL Week 8 Fine List: No Fines for Either Controversial Hit on Seahawks QB Sam Darnold
SEATTLE, Washington — The NFL released its Week 8 fines list on November 7, and neither of the two controversial hits on Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold in the Bears game resulted in a fine. The league issued 31 fines this week, none involving players from the Seattle-Chicago game. Bears linebacker Devon Bush knocked Darnold down as he attempted to slide, a play officials did not flag; another hit by Bears cornerback Kyler Gordon cracked Darnold's rib, an injury head coach Mike Macdonald later confirmed. Both incidents came in Seattle's 34-17 loss to Chicago on November 2 and sparked wide debate afterward, with fans and media questioning both the officiating and the league's standards for after-the-fact discipline. The decision arrives as Seattle prepares to face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday without its starting quarterback, with Darnold sidelined by a quadriceps injury.
