Man Arrested Outside LeBron James's Los Angeles Home on Felony Stalking Suspicion, Reportedly Claimed to Be His Son
On the night of Friday, November 6, a man was arrested outside the Los Angeles home of basketball star LeBron James in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. An LAPD spokesperson confirmed to ESPN that officers responded to the property at 9:39 p.m. to investigate a possible burglary, apprehended a suspect at the residence, and booked him for stalking.
According to MyNewsLA, Officer Norma Eisenman of the LAPD Media Relations Division said officers were dispatched at 9:40 p.m. to a burglary-suspect call in the 500 block of North Tigertail Road, and the suspect was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of felony stalking. Police did not confirm to MyNewsLA that the home was owned by James. TMZ, citing law enforcement sources, reported that security personnel at James's property first spotted the man on surveillance cameras at around 9 p.m. and contacted police, and that the man did not enter the residence.
The detail that spread across social media was what the man reportedly told officers. TMZ reported that he told responding officers he believed he was James's son, and theScore reported that authorities relayed the same account to a KTLA reporter. In its on-the-record confirmation to ESPN, the LAPD addressed only the response time, the arrest at the scene and the stalking booking, and did not mention the claim. Police have not released the man's name or age, nor said whether he had any previous contact with the James family, and no injuries or property damage have been reported.
James himself, 41, was not in Los Angeles that night. He was in Cleveland with the Philadelphia 76ers for an NBA Cup group-stage game against the Cavaliers, which the 76ers lost 119-95; James scored eight points in his first game in Cleveland as a 76ers player. According to EssentiallySports, James's representative declined to comment when ESPN reached out, and neither James nor his family has issued a public statement about the incident.
After word spread on November 7, the story took off on social media. An Instagram roundup by The Shade Room Teens drew about 17,000 likes, with many users linking the man's reported claim to streamer Tylil James's long-running joke about being LeBron's firstborn, and joke posts from sports accounts including Overtime were widely reshared. Police have so far confirmed only the arrest and the stalking booking; the man's claim to be James's son is unverified, and James's publicly known children are Bronny, Bryce and Zhuri.
