Berlin Police Search for Missing 13-Year-Old Asian Schoolgirl: Prosecutors Suspect a Crime as More Than 140 Officers Continue the Search
BERLIN — Berlin police and prosecutors continued a large-scale search on November 7 for a 13-year-old Asian schoolgirl who has been missing since she left her home in Berlin's Marzahn-Hellersdorf district on the morning of Tuesday, November 3, to go to school. Prosecutors say there are indications she may have been the victim of a crime and did not leave voluntarily; the case is being handled by the Berlin state criminal police's Fifth Homicide Division.
Police said she was due to travel at about 7:30 a.m. from Barnimplatz to her school on Sella-Hasse-Strasse but never arrived, and officers issued a public appeal with her photo on Tuesday. On November 6, more than 100 officers searched her residential neighbourhood with helicopter and sniffer-dog support; on November 7, more than 140 officers canvassed residents in Marzahn, put up posters and continued the search. Berlin prosecution spokesman Michael Petzold told dpa: "There continue to be indications of a crime." By Saturday, police had received numerous tips but no breakthrough.
Police describe her as about 1.60 to 1.65 metres tall and slim, with long dark hair; she was last seen wearing a black winter jacket, a grey top, blue jeans and white sneakers, and carrying a black backpack. German and Dutch media report that her name is Lisa T., surname Ta, and that her family has asked Germany's Vietnamese community to help share the appeal.
Police ask anyone who saw her after 7:15 a.m. on November 3, or who knows where she is, to contact the Fifth Homicide Division at (030) 4664-911555 or the state criminal police tip email address, or to report to any police station.
