Lincoln Man Sentenced to 70 Months for Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Nebraska announced that a man from Lincoln, a city in Lancaster County, Nebraska, was sentenced on November 4, 2026, in federal court to 70 months in prison for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Corey Schneider, 51, was barred from possessing firearms because of his prior felony convictions. U.S. District Judge Susan M. Bazis also imposed a three-year term of supervised release to follow his prison term; there is no parole in the federal system.

According to prosecutors, on May 5, 2025, members of the Lincoln-Lancaster County Metro Area Fugitive Task Force arrested Schneider at a Lincoln residence on an outstanding arrest warrant. The next day, investigators learned that firearms were present in Schneider's bedroom, returned to the residence, obtained consent to search, and located two pistols and a rifle in the bedroom.

One of the pistols had been reported stolen to the Lincoln Police Department in 2017. Forensic testing on another pistol showed that Schneider's DNA could be included in a mixture of DNA found on the firearm. An agent of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) determined that the firearms were manufactured outside Nebraska.

Prosecutors said Schneider made incriminating statements during recorded jail calls about a black case in the bedroom containing the pistols, and admitted in an interview that he had traded methamphetamine for one of the pistols. His sentence was enhanced because one of the pistols was stolen and because he possessed a firearm in connection with the felony offense of distribution of methamphetamine.
