IMAX Third-Quarter Revenue Jumps 64% to a Record $175 Million: Net Income of $117 Million as The Odyssey Reaches $538 Million in IMAX Box Office
New York — IMAX Corporation on November 5 reported the best quarterly results in its history for the third quarter of 2026: revenue rose 64% to $174.6 million, from $106.7 million a year earlier; gross margin rose 88% to $126.3 million; net income rose 418% to $117.1 million, a record 67% margin; net income attributable to common shareholders was $113.8 million, or $1.96 per diluted share, up 430%; adjusted EBITDA was $120.9 million, a 69% margin; and adjusted earnings per share were $2.21. The company noted that net income attributable to common shareholders includes a $36.7 million valuation allowance release, worth $0.63 per diluted share, related to Canadian deferred tax assets.
IMAX global box office reached a quarterly record of $712 million, up 94% year over year. Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, filmed entirely with IMAX technology, delivered $538 million and became the highest-grossing IMAX release of all time; Spider-Man: Brand New Day added $58 million.
By segment, Content Solutions revenue rose 110% to $94.0 million, and Technology Products and Services revenue rose 28% to $77.3 million. The company installed 32 systems in the quarter, bringing its commercial network to 1,820 locations with a backlog of 409 systems, and said signings for the year to date have passed 100. Available liquidity was $641 million at quarter end, including $208 million of cash.
