Springfield Man Sentenced to 180 Months for Drug Trafficking
Christopher Robinson, 31, of Springfield, in Sangamon County, Illinois, was sentenced on November 5 to 180 months (15 years) in federal prison for possessing methamphetamine and fentanyl with the intent to distribute it. U.S. District Judge Colleen R. Lawless imposed the sentence.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of Illinois, the government presented evidence at the sentencing hearing that law enforcement agents executing a search warrant at Robinson's residence found 263 grams of methamphetamine and 166 grams of suspected heroin. The suspected heroin tested positive for fentanyl. The government also presented evidence that Robinson intended to distribute the recovered drugs.
Robinson was indicted in June 2024 and pleaded guilty in June 2026. The statutory penalties for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine are not less than 15 years and up to life imprisonment, up to a $20,000,000 fine, and up to a life term of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Illinois State Police, and the Jacksonville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Z. Weir represented the government in the prosecution. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the Department of Justice program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence.
