Former Real Estate VP Sentenced to 11 Years for Defrauding Employer of Over $9.5 Million in 14-Year Scheme
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York announced that Jared Solomon, a former vice president of leasing at the commercial real estate company Vornado Realty Trust, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Loretta A. Preska to 11 years in prison for wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and bank fraud. Solomon, 49, of New York, New York, was convicted in April 2026 following a one-week jury trial and was remanded following his conviction.
According to the indictment and the evidence at trial, beginning in 2009 Solomon created fake commercial real estate broker companies. Over approximately the next 14 years, he lied to Vornado by claiming that brokers were owed broker fees or construction reimbursement expenses on deals on which he worked. In fact, no such work had been performed, and the payments went to bank accounts in the names of the fake businesses, which he controlled. In total, Solomon caused Vornado to make 17 payments totaling over $9.5 million.
To carry out and conceal the scheme, Solomon created fictitious personas and email accounts, used a temporary phone number and a newly purchased cellphone to pose as representatives of the fake companies, forged the signatures of real people on agreements he submitted to his employer, and provided a fraudulent business certificate to a bank to open an account. He also provided false information and a doctored bank statement to a mortgage lender to obtain an $850,000 mortgage loan.
He spent the proceeds on a $4.55 million house in Purchase, New York, a $3.6 million apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a country club membership, and a Porsche, among other luxury expenses.
In addition to the prison sentence, Solomon was sentenced to three years of supervised release, was ordered to forfeit over $9 million in fraud proceeds and his interest in the two luxury homes purchased with those proceeds, and was ordered to pay restitution. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigated the case. (Source: U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York)
