ALDI Thanksgiving Meal Feeds 10 for Under $39: The 16-Pound Turkey Arrives in Stores November 4
ALDI set out its Thanksgiving meal pricing in a news release on October 14: the ingredients for a full, classic Thanksgiving meal for 10 people cost under $39 in total, less than $4 per person, with no coupons, loyalty cards, minimum purchases or memberships required.
The meal comprises 12 items built around a 16-pound Farmer's Choice turkey, along with stuffing, sweet potatoes, dinner rolls, fresh cranberries, peas, carrots, celery, pumpkin pie ingredients (pumpkin pie mix and crusts), whole milk and whipping cream. The products are marked with a turkey logo on in-store shelves, and shoppers can also add the entire list to an online cart in one click.
ALDI said this year's meal is built around the same core items tracked in the American Farm Bureau Federation's (AFBF) longstanding Thanksgiving Dinner Cost Survey, making the price easy to compare, and that over the last five years ALDI shoppers have saved an average of 26 percent on a classic Thanksgiving meal compared with the national average reported by AFBF.
The prices run from October 14 through November 25, with items arriving in stages: cranberries from October 26, the 16-pound turkey from November 4, and pumpkin pie mix from November 11. With the turkey in stores on November 4, the centerpiece of the meal is now in place.
"Thanksgiving shouldn't require a calculator or a coupon strategy," said Atty McGrath, CEO of ALDI. "At ALDI, shoppers can put a 16-pound turkey and the Thanksgiving classics on the table for 10 people, all for under $39. No hoops. Just a really good meal at a really good price."
"Our goal is to make Thanksgiving shopping simple, affordable and delicious, so families can spend less time chasing deals and more time enjoying the holiday with loved ones," said Scott Patton, Chief Commercial Officer of ALDI.
