Pennsylvania Father and Two Young Children Die in Parking Garage Fall: Examiner Rules the Children Homicides, the Father a Suicide
PITTSBURGH — The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed that the three people found dead on November 3 at the base of a five-story municipal parking garage in Mt. Lebanon, a Pittsburgh suburb, were Patrick Lynch, 42, and his children James, 8, and Caroline, 6. The examiner ruled that both children died of multiple blunt force injuries and that their deaths were homicides; the father also died of multiple blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled a suicide.
Allegheny County Police said officers were called at about 4:15 p.m. on November 3 to a report of three people lying unresponsive behind a parking garage in the 700 block of Washington Road. All three were pronounced dead at the scene, James at 4:35 p.m. and Caroline at 4:36 p.m. Police said the deaths were 'not an accident,' and investigators believe the father pushed his two children from the upper level of the garage before jumping himself. Police have not publicly identified a motive.
The children's mother, Anna Lynch, wrote in a social media post that was later deleted that her husband was a 'wonderful dad' who had struggled with depression after being laid off in August, and that he had recently agreed to seek professional help and seemed to be improving. According to his LinkedIn profile, Lynch studied mathematics and economics at Dartmouth College and earned an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University, and worked as a data scientist at the technology company Slice from February 2022 to August 2026.
According to a 2025 interview with Anna in a local magazine, Caroline had lived since shortly after birth with Williams syndrome, a rare genetic disorder, along with heart and lung disease.
