俄亥俄州富兰克林县哥伦布市的哥伦布机员队11月1日在没有比赛的情况下锁定了美国职业足球大联盟季后赛席位，连续第四年晋级季后赛。
机员队10月31日已在主场以3比0战胜华盛顿联队取得五连胜，11月1日的两场关键比赛结果正好符合机员队所需：多伦多FC客场负于亚特兰大联队，纽约红牛客场负于纳什维尔队，其中纳什维尔队在0比2落后的情况下以3比2逆转，制胜球出现在补时阶段。凭借这两场结果，机员队以13胜15负5平、积44分排名东部第八锁定季后赛席位；第八名比最后一个晋级席位高出一位。
机员队9月1日时还在东部垫底，此后12场比赛取得8胜3负，近8场赢下7场，完成了一波强势反弹。机员队常规赛最后一场比赛将于11月7日客场挑战芝加哥火焰队。

Follow-Up: Columbus Crew Clinch Playoff Berth for Fourth Straight Year; Regular-Season Finale at Chicago on November 7
The Columbus Crew of Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, clinched a Major League Soccer playoff berth on November 1 without playing, qualifying for the postseason for the fourth straight year.
The Crew had beaten D.C. United 3-0 at home on October 31 for a fifth straight win, and both results they needed on November 1 fell their way: Toronto FC lost on the road to Atlanta United, and the New York Red Bulls lost on the road to Nashville SC, which rallied from 2-0 down to win 3-2 with a stoppage-time winner. With those results, the Crew locked up a playoff spot in eighth place in the Eastern Conference at 13 wins, 15 losses and 5 draws for 44 points; eighth place sits one spot above the final qualifying position.
Columbus was at the bottom of the East on September 1 but has since gone 8-3 over 12 games, winning seven of its last eight, to complete a strong late surge. The Crew's regular-season finale is on November 7 on the road against the Chicago Fire.
