Wild's Fast Start Snaps Capitals' Streak in 5-1 Win in Washington
The Washington Capitals of Washington, D.C., lost 5-1 at home to the Minnesota Wild on the afternoon of November 1, ending their three-game winning streak. Minnesota struck early, with Quinn Hughes and Michael McCarron scoring in the first six minutes for a 2-0 lead.
Washington did not score until Justin Sourdif's goal with six seconds left in the second period, and the Wild pulled away in the third: Maxim Shabanov added a power-play goal, Kirill Kaprizov scored into an empty net with 57 seconds remaining — his league-leading 15th goal of the season — and Danila Yurov finished the scoring with 24.9 seconds left.
Wild goaltender Jesper Wallstedt stopped 26 of 27 shots; Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson allowed four goals on 28 shots. The loss exposed Washington's slow starts, while Minnesota continued its strong road form.
