West Virginia Invests Over $3.3 Million in Beech Bottom Water System: Tank Repairs and Route 2 Main Loop Move Forward
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey announced on October 29 a water-infrastructure package of more than $3.3 million for the Village of Beech Bottom in Brooke County, repairing the village's two aging water tanks and completing a long-stalled water-main loop.
A $283,000 award from the state Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council's Critical Needs Fund, paid entirely by the state, will fix the two side-by-side tanks that serve about 550 residents. Tank 1 has a leaking valve and will be repaired immediately without a service outage; Tank 2 has a cracked floor, has been out of service for more than a year, and will take four to six weeks to repair.
Another $400,000 from the Governor's Civil Contingent Fund completes the financing for a $3 million water-main and fire-hydrant loop along Route 2. The project won federal funding in 2020 but stalled for years over a funding gap; the state money closes that gap and will improve both water reliability and fire protection in the village.
The announcement is part of more than $58 million in water and wastewater packages being rolled out across West Virginia. Beech Bottom Mayor Becky Uhlly and State Senator Laura Chapman welcomed the investment, calling the tank repairs a long-awaited necessity for village residents.
