Yankees Will Not Renew Special Assistants Minaya and Sabean for 2027 Season
The Bronx, New York City, New York — The New York Yankees will not renew the contracts of special assistants Omar Minaya and Brian Sabean for the 2027 season, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, in news reported October 31.
Both executives joined the Yankees before the 2023 season and worked alongside general manager Brian Cashman as special assistants. The club has already confirmed that Cashman and manager Aaron Boone will both return for the 2027 season.
The Yankees have reached the postseason in three straight years and nine of the past 10 seasons, but their two most recent playoff runs ended in American League Division Series defeats. Minaya previously served as general manager of the Mets, and Sabean long served as general manager of the Giants; their next moves will draw interest from other clubs.
