Warning: ASONPAO Gate Opener Remotes Let Children Reach Coin Batteries That Can Be Swallowed; About 2,610 Sold, Stop Using and Discard Them
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a product safety warning on October 29 urging consumers to stop using ASONPAO Ghost Controls Gate Opener Remote Transmitters immediately. About 2,610 of the transmitters are involved.
According to the warning, the remote transmitters violate the mandatory safety standard for consumer products containing button cell or coin batteries: the lithium coin battery inside can be accessed too easily by children. Though small, a swallowed coin battery can become lodged in a child's body and cause severe internal burns in a short period of time, leading to permanent injury or death.
The CPSC urges consumers to stop using the transmitters right away, dispose of them in accordance with local disposal requirements, and not sell or give away the hazardous remotes. Households with young children should remove the devices from accessible areas immediately.
The transmitters were sold on Amazon.com from March 2024 through June 2026 for about $37, and may also have been sold by other third-party sellers.
The agency reminds households to check that battery compartments on remotes, key fobs and other small devices require a tool or two simultaneous actions to open, to store spare coin batteries out of children's sight and reach, and to seek immediate medical care if a child may have swallowed a coin battery.
