The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted a company recall announcement on October 30: Vitality Works Inc. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is recalling one lot of 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha Capsules (120 count) because the product has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, the announcement says. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella may experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, and in rare circumstances the organism can enter the bloodstream and produce more severe illnesses. No illnesses have been reported to date, and the potential contamination was identified through routine sampling of a single retail unit.
The recalled product was available for purchase from November 24, 2025, through October 20, 2026, online through Amazon.com and at Whole Foods Market stores in 30 states and the District of Columbia, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, New York, Texas and Washington; the full list is in the FDA notice.
The product is packaged in white plastic bottles labeled 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha 120 count, with UPC 9948252099. It can be identified by lot number 2025-26227 and expiration date 10/13/2028, both printed on the bottom of the bottle.
Customers who have the recalled product should not consume it. They should discard the product and not return it to the store; refunds are available at any Whole Foods Market store.
