Bozeman Meth Network's Leader Got 18 Years: Belgrade Man Towner, a Main Seller, Sentenced to 5 Years and 10 Months
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Montana announced that Dakota Bradfield Towner, of Belgrade, Montana, was sentenced on Thursday to five years and 10 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for trafficking methamphetamine in Bozeman. U.S. Attorney Scott Twito announced the sentence, imposed by U.S. District Judge Kathleen S. Lane.
Towner, 31, pleaded guilty in June 2026 to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Prosecutors alleged he was a main seller for Chad Allen Bachmann, who trafficked meth out of a storage unit in Red Lodge and was sentenced in July 2026 to more than 18 years in prison.
Between 2023 and 2025, the Missouri River Drug Task Force set up a series of controlled buys from Towner, purchasing varying amounts of meth through informants. His accomplice Raven Renay Thompson told investigators Bachmann was their source; Thompson pleaded guilty to trafficking charges in August 2026 and will be sentenced on December 17.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Colin Rubich prosecuted the case, investigated by the Eastern Montana High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and the Missouri River Drug Task Force.
