Pensacola Felon, 21, Indicted on Federal Firearm, Machinegun and Unregistered-Firearm Charges; Trial Set for November 16

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Florida announced that Trenton Demarquis Jenkins, 21, of Pensacola, Florida, has been indicted in federal court on one count of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, one count of possessing a machinegun, and one count of possessing an unregistered firearm. U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin announced the charges.

Jenkins appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Hope T. Cannon for arraignment at the United States Courthouse in Pensacola. Trial is scheduled for November 16, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. before District Court Judge T. Kent Wetherell, II.

If convicted, Jenkins faces up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon; up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine for possessing a machinegun; and up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $10,000 fine for possessing an unregistered firearm. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

The case is being investigated by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brooke D. Lindsay. It falls under the Justice Department's Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, part of Operation Take Back America.

The U.S. Attorney's Office notes that an indictment is merely an allegation by a grand jury that a defendant has committed a violation of federal criminal law; it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which the government bears the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
