California Governor Race Enters Final Stretch on October 30: Hilton Makes Three Sacramento Stops on Jobs and Homelessness, Becerra Meets Allies in San Francisco
Sacramento, Sacramento County, California — With four days to go until the November 3 vote, the two leading candidates for California governor made their final pushes on October 30.
Republican Steve Hilton spent the day in the capital: in the morning he announced a plan to expand hands-on training in construction, manufacturing and engineering at the California Construction College Academy; in the afternoon he visited Loaves & Fishes to announce a homelessness plan; and at 5:30 p.m. he held a rally at Cal Expo focused on the cost of living, criticizing the pressures on households after years of Democratic rule.
Democrat Xavier Becerra campaigned in San Francisco, joining Mayor Daniel Lurie at a morning reception at The Academy SF. On Sunday he will head south to share the stage with Governor Gavin Newsom at Hollywood's Palladium.
The two have sparred over a mileage tax: Hilton attacked Becerra for leaving the possibility open in an interview and said he would veto such a tax as governor; Becerra's campaign responded that he has never proposed one.
The governorship is open this cycle as Newsom reaches his term limit, and the outcome will shape housing, homelessness and energy policy in the nation's largest state.
