Bears Land All-Pro Defensive Tackle Jeffery Simmons in October 29 Blockbuster: Two First-Round Picks Head to Tennessee, Which Also Gets a 2027 Fourth-Rounder
Chicago, Cook County, Illinois: The Chicago Bears pulled off a blockbuster trade on October 29, acquiring All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons from the Tennessee Titans for a package including their 2027 first-round and fourth-round picks and their 2028 first-round pick; Tennessee also sent Chicago a 2028 fifth-round pick. Simmons is the first defensive tackle traded for multiple first-round picks in the common draft era since 1967.
Simmons spent eight seasons with the Titans as one of the team’s most beloved and highest-paid players, having signed an extension in June worth up to $105.9 million. Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi said the team, 7-34 over the past three seasons, must build for the next two to three years and that the deal accelerates the rebuild.
At the time of the trade the Bears were 5-2 and second in the NFC North, chasing their first Super Bowl title since the 1985 championship team, while the Titans were 1-6. Simmons, who had played nearly 90% of Tennessee’s defensive snaps this season, will pair inside with veteran Grady Jarrett and join edge rusher Montez Sweat, just back from a two-game suspension, on a Bears defense ranked eighth in the league. Quarterback Caleb Williams also reacted publicly with excitement after the news broke.
