New Orleans Saints Release Veteran Cornerback David Long Jr. on October 29 in Orleans Parish, Louisiana: Released from Injured Reserve, May Re-sign or Return to Practice Squad in Three Weeks
The New Orleans Saints of New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, on October 29 released veteran cornerback David Long Jr. from injured reserve, according to Saints Wire, citing a report by team beat reporter Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. Long, 28, was a third-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Rams in 2019 and has bounced around several teams since; he joined the Saints in August before the team's final preseason game but began the regular season on injured reserve. According to Saints Wire, the Saints made the move during their bye week; releasing Long frees the team's training staff to devote resources to other injured players' recoveries, while giving Long a chance to play again in 2026 — he can sign with another team, or wait at least three weeks and re-sign with New Orleans, likely on the practice squad. Long is the latest Saints player released with an injury settlement; most of those who left earlier have found spots with new teams, including rookie defensive end Michael Heldman, still on the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad; running back Audric Estime, on the Cleveland Browns' 53-man roster; and running back Devin Neal, on the Washington Commanders' practice squad. Several other Saints players are out for the season with injuries suffered in training camp or the preseason.
