'Inside the NBA' Host Ernie Johnson to Step Down After This Season, His 37th at the Helm
Ernie Johnson, the long-serving host of 'Inside the NBA,' announced in an Instagram video on October 28 that this season — his 37th — will be his last as the show's host, The Hollywood Reporter reported. "It's totally my decision. It's just time," he said.
Johnson became host of the NBA highlights and studio show in its second season, in 1990, and has anchored it ever since, steering a panel whose analysts include Kenny Smith (since 1998), Charles Barkley (since 2000) and Shaquille O'Neal (since 2011) — a lineup widely regarded as one of the most popular studio teams in sports television history.
The show has long aired on TNT and also appears on ESPN. Johnson's departure will mark the first change of host in the programme's history.
