Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE: MA) reported third-quarter 2026 results on October 29: net revenue was $9.807 billion, up 14% from a year earlier; net income was $4.628 billion, up about 18%; and diluted earnings per share were $5.28, up about 22%. The earnings release was posted on the company's investor relations website and furnished to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Form 8-K.
Operating income rose 16% to $5.862 billion, for an operating margin of 59.8%, up from 58.8% a year earlier, while operating expenses rose 11% to $3.945 billion. Adjusted net income was $4.653 billion and adjusted diluted earnings per share were $5.31, up 21%. The quarter included a $74 million litigation provision.
Worldwide gross dollar volume grew 7% on a local-currency basis to about $3.0 trillion. Purchase volume rose 9%, cross-border volume rose 11%, and switched transactions grew 9% to 49.3 billion. Contactless payments accounted for 81% of in-person switched purchase transactions. As of September 30, customers had issued 3.8 billion Mastercard- and Maestro-branded cards, with card growth of 5%.
Payment network net revenue increased 11%, and value-added services and solutions net revenue increased 19%.
During the quarter the company repurchased 5.3 million shares for $3 billion and paid $763 million in dividends. For the first nine months of 2026, net revenue was $27.482 billion, net income was $12.898 billion, and diluted earnings per share were $14.59.
