Violent Repeat Offender in Washington Sentenced to 10 Years in Federal Prison
RICHLAND, Washington — A violent repeat offender from Pasco, a city in Franklin County, Washington, was sentenced on October 29 to 10 years in federal prison. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Washington announced that Victor Amezcua-Garcia, 31, was sentenced by District Court Judge Mary K. Dimke to 120 months of incarceration followed by 3 years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Court documents show Amezcua-Garcia, a longtime gang member in the Tri-Cities area, was alleged to have shot a woman in Pasco. Pasco Police Department detectives texted him pretending to be rival gang members and set up a fight to lure him out of hiding. He arrived in a stolen vehicle and fled at high speed through residential areas when officers tried to stop him; after a PIT maneuver and being boxed in, he kept revving the engine to break free before giving up. Two firearms were found in the vehicle; as a previously convicted felon, he cannot lawfully possess firearms.
In imposing sentence, Judge Dimke stated that Amezcua-Garcia is a "significant danger" to the community and is on a path to kill someone. She noted a criminal history starting at age 12, drive-by shooting convictions at ages 15 and 18, a conviction at 22 for armed theft of cell phones from children, unlawful firearm possession in 2017, a 2018 assault conviction for shooting someone in a motel room, and release from his most recent conviction on September 24, 2024 — followed just four months later by another shooting in January 2025. The judge was not persuaded by his claim to be a gang "drop out," finding he had shown up armed at a local park looking for a rival gang member.
First Assistant United States Attorney Pete Serrano said the prosecution underscores his office's unwavering commitment to public safety. ATF Seattle Field Division Special Agent in Charge Jonathan Blais said persistent violent criminal behavior will not be tolerated. Pasco Police Captain Bill Parramore said the department's detectives played a key role in locating and apprehending him. The case was investigated by the ATF and the Pasco Police Department, under case number 4:25-CR-006006-MKD. (Source: U.S. Department of Justice)
